Global demand for SAF is rising as the world seeks to decarbonise and safeguard sovereign fuel security.

The global aviation sector faces one of the most complex decarbonisation challenges of any industry.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimates that SAF will need to supply around 65% of aviation’s emissions reductions by 2050, creating a market demand exceeding 450 billion litres (368 million tonnes) per year.

Australia currently imports almost all of its transport fuels, including jet fuel. Building SAF production is therefore both a decarbonisation opportunity and a national resilience strategy — one that can drive regional investment, create new industries, and strengthen fuel security.
